AI Safety Institute, OpenAI sign MOU to ensure safety of high-risk AI

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT said on Tuesday that the AI Safety Institute and OpenAI signed a memorandum of understanding to ensure the safety of advanced AI models in high-risk fields. The signing ceremony was held at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute\'s Seoul office. The two sides will share knowledge and best practices on safety evaluation methodologies and benchmarks and exchange technical information to develop assessment systems reflecting Korean language and context.

KISA begins testing OpenAI\'s GPT-5.5 Cyber as Mythos access nears

South Korea has begun testing an AI cybersecurity frontier model to set the government\'s response direction to AI security threats and apply results to industry. The Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) under the Ministry of Science and ICT has entered tests of OpenAI\'s \'GPT-5.5 Cyber\'. KISA is verifying whether the model can be used to identify and respond to threats and may expand use to software and infrastructure checks. KISA is also moving to secure access to Anthropic\'s Mythos model.

MSIT discusses global AI issues at G7 digital ministers meeting

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT shared its policy direction for the spread of artificial intelligence and a safe digital transition at a G7 digital technology ministers meeting in Paris. Vice Minister Ryu Je-myeong led the delegation. Participants discussed safe and responsible AI, wider AI use by small and medium-sized firms, digital-based carbon neutrality and protection of minors online. The ministry also plans to visit French AI company Mistral AI.
