Choosing the wrong battery can backfire: alkaline vs lithium-ion differences

Differences between alkaline and lithium-ion batteries depend more on device use than on performance alone. Alkaline batteries are widely sold in common sizes, are relatively cheap and easy to find, and suit low-drain devices such as remotes and wall clocks. Lithium-ion batteries are rechargeable and store more energy for the same size, making them common in smartphones and laptops. Users should also distinguish disposable lithium AA and AAA from lithium-ion packs and follow compatibility and disposal rules.
