Tesla Model Y brings back 4680 battery in bid for battery independence
Tesla will again install its 4680 battery in some Model Y vehicles after resolving the dry cathode process, a major obstacle to mass production, it said in a January earnings release. Tesla says it has succeeded in dry production for both cathodes and anodes, which experts say could cut manufacturing costs by up to 50 percent. The company is also seeking to reduce tariff risks and strengthen North American supply by using batteries made at its Texas Gigafactory.
