KOSPI settles above 6,200, up over 2 percent on foreign and institutional buying

South Korea’s benchmark KOSPI closed above the 6,200 level on April 16, rising more than 2 percent as foreign investors and institutions jointly posted net buying for a third straight session. The index ended up 134.66 points at 6,226.05 after opening higher and briefly paring gains. Individuals were net sellers. All top 10 stocks by market value rose. The Kosdaq also finished higher, while the won strengthened against the dollar.

XRP retail holdings grow as addresses with 1,000 to 100,000 XRP hit record high

The number of wallets holding 1,000 to 100,000 XRP rose to a record 1,105,590, according to data cited in the report. The increase came even as XRP has fallen 52 percent since October 2025. Holdings across these mid-sized wallets also climbed to a record 10.56 billion XRP, with an additional 520 million XRP accumulated during the downturn. Larger 100,000 to 10 million XRP wallets reduced holdings, while ultra-large wallets holding 10 million to 100 million XRP increased balances.

Apple steps up advertising push

Apple is expanding its advertising business to offset slower hardware growth as iPhone replacement cycles lengthen. It plans to introduce ads in its Maps app this summer and launch Apple Business, a platform for businesses combining ad tools, Business Insider reported. Apple aims to widen its reach into the small and midsize business ad market. Omdia estimated Apple’s ad revenue rose 15 percent last year to about $7 billion.
