The KOSPI ended trading on April 16 above the 6,200 level. Foreign investors and institutions posted net buying together for a third straight session, leading the index higher.

The KOSPI closed up 134.66 points, or 2.21 percent, at 6,226.05. It opened up 58.10 points, or 0.95 percent, at 6,149.49, trimmed early gains, then extended its rise again to move above 6,200.

By investor type, individuals logged net selling of 1.8069 trillion won, while foreign investors and institutions posted net buying of 464.4 billion won and 1.1038 trillion won, respectively. Individuals have sold for three straight sessions, while foreign investors and institutions have bought for three straight sessions.

All of the top 10 stocks by market value rose. Samsung Electronics rose 3.08 percent to 217,500 won and SK Hynix gained 1.67 percent to 1,155,000 won.

Hyundai Motor rose 5.12 percent, LG Energy Solution gained 1.96 percent, SK Square climbed 3.76 percent, Hanwha Aerospace added 0.66 percent, Samsung Biologics rose 0.87 percent, Doosan Enerbility jumped 6.33 percent and Kia gained 4.22 percent. All ended higher.

The Kosdaq also ended higher. The index closed up 10.54 points, or 0.91 percent, at 1,162.97.

In the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won ended at 1,473.50 per dollar, up 3.00 won from the previous session.
