Thomson Reuters launches in-house AI model for legal work

Thomson Reuters has launched an in-house large language model called Thomson tailored for legal work. SiliconANGLE reported on Aug. 24 that the model supports tasks related to legal advice by combining Thomson Reuters legal content with external providers’ LLMs. Thomson will be applied first to CoCounsel’s table-based analysis for large-scale document review, while CoCounsel keeps a multi-model structure. Thomson Reuters said it spent about $40 million over two years and cut final training costs to about $450,000.

Anthropic expands access to Mythos5-based cybersecurity capabilities in Claude

Anthropic is expanding access to cybersecurity capabilities based on Claude Mythos5, SecurityWeek reported on Aug. 24. The move builds on the Glasswing project launched in April and aims to limit direct access to Mythos-class models while increasing the defensive outputs available to defenders. Anthropic is integrating Mythos5 into security operations, incident response and detection tools and has begun using it for code scanning in Claude Security beta for Claude Enterprise customers.

Gas turbines emerge as new AI infrastructure bottleneck after semiconductors

A shortage of gas turbines is emerging as a new bottleneck for AI development as demand to secure power for data centres surges, but supplies for natural gas generation fail to keep pace, Gigazine reported on Aug. 24. Some AI companies are building gas power plants on their own sites to cut long-term electricity costs. Manufacturers are signalling long lead times, while overall power equipment prices doubled from 2023 to 2025.
