Non-bank gaps widen among financial groups as insurance competitiveness emerges as battleground

Non-bank earnings gaps are widening among South Korean financial groups. KB Financial Group and Shinhan Financial Group have built stable profit bases outside banking, while Hana Financial Group remains heavily reliant on bank earnings. Hana has joined the open sale of Yebyeol Non-life Insurance, a bridge insurer for MG Non-Life Insurance, to strengthen its portfolio. KB generated 37 percent of profit from non-bank units, and Shinhan is pushing to lift the share longer term.
