AI moves into CEO decision-making; outcomes hinge on organisation, talent and agents

Boston Consulting Group said global companies are set to double AI investment in 2026 from the prior year despite economic uncertainty, and are elevating AI to a core CEO agenda item. In a survey of 2,360 executives in 16 countries, 72 percent of CEOs said they are the main AI decision-maker. The report said leading firms allocate 60 percent of AI budgets to reskilling and more than half to agent-based AI.

Automation lowers barriers to entering D2C

Operational tasks such as product design, registration and settlement links can hinder entry into direct-to-consumer sales, making automation a growing alternative. A government survey showed solo entrepreneurs took 11.7 months to prepare and needed 28.6 months to reach break-even. Cafe24’s Cafe24 Pro automates store building, listings and content creation, and links products to 15 marketplaces. The service posted 133.8 billion won in monthly GMV as of November 2025.

KOSPI breaks 4,800 for first time, 4 percent away from 5,000

South Korea's KOSPI index broke above 4,800 for the first time in intraday trade. At 9:10 a.m. on Jan. 16, it was up 0.14 percent at 4,804.25 after opening 0.43 percent higher at 4,820.66, with gains later easing. The index also set a new intraday record above the previous high of 4,797.55. It has risen for 11 straight sessions, its third-longest streak.
