XRP tops Upbit crypto trading volume in South Korea in 2025, beating bitcoin

XRP was the most traded cryptocurrency on South Korea's largest exchange, Upbit, in 2025, overtaking bitcoin, according to an analysis of data disclosed by Upbit operator Dunamu and cited by The Crypto Basic. The report said XRP maintained steady trading throughout the year and accounted for about 70 percent of total volume on Upbit. Activity was most active in the won market, where XRP/KRW hit a daily peak of $1.22 billion in July. Domestic exchanges held about 570 million XRP at the end of 2025. Upbit had 13.26 million cumulative users, with trading traffic concentrated around 9 a.m.

Sh Suhyup Bank holds appointment ceremony for 2026 new recruits, 67 assigned to roles

Sh Suhyup Bank said it held an appointment ceremony on Jan. 16 for its 2026 new recruits at its headquarters in Seoul. Bank President Shin Hak-ki and other executives attended, along with senior employees, to congratulate 67 recruits. The event included a video sketch of training, messages from senior staff and presentations by the recruits. Surprise video messages from parents were also shown. The recruits will be deployed nationwide.

KOSPI rises for 12th session, closes above 4,900 for first time, nears 5,000

South Korea's benchmark KOSPI rose for a 12th consecutive session on Monday, closing above 4,900 for the first time despite concerns over U.S. Trump administration tariffs. The index ended up 63.92 points, or 1.32 percent, at 4,904.66, a record closing high. It opened lower at 4,829.40 before turning higher and briefly reaching a record intraday peak of 4,917.37. The KOSDAQ also rose.
