Non-custodial Bitcoin swap service Boltz has suspended its service until further notice after AI-based hacking attempts increased in recent months. Cointelegraph reported on Monday that Boltz said automated AI reconnaissance targeting its infrastructure has steadily increased this year.

In a post on X on Monday, Boltz said it decided not to resume Boltz Swap after reviewing the results of a recent internal security check. It said it was difficult to responsibly reopen the service while multiple entities that appear to be attack groups are actively targeting it and its development team is rushing to implement fixes.

Boltz said attacks have accelerated sharply in recent days and it does not expect this asymmetry to be resolved. It also cited that attackers are finding vulnerabilities and changing their methods faster than its small development team can detect and patch them.

Boltz has provided a non-custodial atomic swap service that moves bitcoin and bitcoin-denominated assets across several layers of bitcoin, including the Bitcoin mainnet, the Lightning Network and the Liquid Network.

Boltz will continue to operate an API for processing refunds during the suspension period. Its support team will also continue to take inquiries. Boltz had total value locked of $180,860 at the time of writing, based on DefiLlama.
