Testimony from university classrooms suggests that as generative AI spreads, instructors are spending more effort detecting misconduct than teaching. An instructor of asynchronous online classes said ChatGPT has changed grading and assignment management, with more students submitting AI-generated work. The instructor warned this can undermine learning by replacing thinking processes. Similar patterns are appearing in quiz results and coursework, prompting renewed interest in oral or handwritten exams, though these are hard to apply online.

Google has designed Workspace so that disabling Gemini also blocks existing convenience features such as Gmail inbox prioritisation and spelling checks, prompting criticism that it unfairly restricts user choice to expand AI adoption. Users must navigate multiple settings in the Gmail web client to turn off smart features, which are linked across Workspace. Turning them off can also disable desktop alerts, delivery tracking and calendar integration, and workplace users may need administrator privileges.
