Nvidia-backed U.S. startup pushes space bitcoin mining to cut power costs 30-fold

A bid is under way to mine bitcoin in space using satellites for the first time, with U.S. space technology and AI infrastructure company Starcloud announcing a plan to start mining from orbit. The company plans to carry mining equipment on its second spacecraft launch later this year. CEO Philip Johnston said bitcoin mining consumes about 20 gigawatts of continuous power and could ultimately move to space.
