LG Electronics said on Tuesday it held LG AI Devcon 2026 for two days from Sept. 15 at LG Sciencepark in Magok, Seoul, under the auspices of the LG SW Council. The event was renamed from the LG software developers conference held annually since 2022 to reflect changes in development environments based on AI.

About 1,500 developers from affiliates including LG Electronics, LG CNS and LG Uplus are taking part online and offline. An exhibition space was also set up where participants can experience the latest AI technologies from Nvidia, Microsoft, Google Cloud, AWS and the LG AI Research Institute.

The keynote speeches were delivered by professor Jihoon Jeong (정지훈) and professor Hyeon-cheol Sim (심현철). Jeong, a founding partner of Silicon Valley investment firm A2G Capital and an adjunct professor at Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology, explained the process of change in AI-based software development methods. Sim, considered a first-generation drone researcher in South Korea, covered technology trends in "physical AI" and its future development direction.

Cases of development innovation were also shared. LG Electronics introduced know-how on using AI to develop its proprietary smart TV platform webOS, and it also addressed response strategies for security threats arising from the spread of AI and ways to build management systems for AI service reliability and transparency. LG CNS presented results of improving legacy systems using AI, and LG Uplus 발표ted results in content production based on a conversational AI agent.

On Sept. 15, the first day of the conference, the finals of the AI service development contest "LG Prompton Challenge 2026" were held. The contest uses LG's in-house large language model "Exaone" and AWS's AI development tool "Kiro". In August qualifiers, 28 teams and 84 developers took part. Ten teams that advanced by proposing services such as an appliance installation simulation service and a B2B customer-tailored proposal-writing service refined their services with three weeks of technical support from the LG AI Research Institute and AWS before competing in the finals.

LG AI Devcon is being run as part of "LG Spark", an AI innovation, technology and culture festival held at LG Sciencepark from Sept. 7 to 17. Events continued, starting with "LG Tech Fair" to share new technologies from LG affiliates, followed by "LG AX Fair" to share AX results and "LG AI Talk Concert" covering the LG AI Research Institute's AI vision and industrial proof-of-concept cases. Through Sept. 17, "Culture Week" is also being held with LG members and their families, industry-academia talent, and Magok residents and small business owners.

Kim Dong-wook (김동욱), an executive vice president and head of LG Electronics' SW Center, said, "We will actively share AI utilization experience and innovation cases accumulated in development sites to accelerate AI-based development innovation, and connect it to new value and services that customers can feel."
