South Korea ministry, police to build digital drug investigation infrastructure

South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Police Agency said on Tuesday they plan to invest more than 13 billion won over three years to develop an integrated narcotics investigation system that links dark web analysis with virtual asset transaction tracing. The project aims to counter online drug distribution that exploits anonymity. The agencies also plan technology to monitor drug advertisements on the dark web and social media using AI.

POSTECH professor Min Seung-gi wins February Korea science and technology award for climate crisis research

South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Research Foundation selected Min Seung-gi (민승기), a professor in the Department of Environmental Engineering at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), as the February recipient of the Korea Science and Technology Award. He applied a correction method based on greenhouse gas radiative forcing to Arctic sea ice research. His analysis found sea ice declined significantly in all months and linked the main cause to rising greenhouse gases.

MSIT to hold K-Global Project briefing to support AI and digital firms

South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT said on Feb. 4 it will hold a joint public-private briefing on Feb. 10 at the aT Center L Tower in Seoul to explain government support programmes for AI and digital innovation companies under the K-Global Project brand. The ministry will outline 31 programmes across five categories worth 144.1 billion won, and will run some consultation booths. Nine private companies and institutions, including Nvidia, Asan Nanum Foundation and Hana Bank, will attend.
