[DigitalToday intern reporter Kyungmin Hong] DJI, a Chinese drone and camera maker, released a teaser video for its next-generation handheld gimbal camera, the Osmo Pocket 4, and signaled an official announcement.

Foreign media including IT Media reported on April 9 local time that DJI unveiled the slogan “The World In My Pocket” and stressed the new product’s portability and usability. The teaser focuses on conveying the product’s concept and direction rather than specific specifications.

The product is presumed to be a successor to the Osmo Pocket 3, which has been popular in the vlog market since its 2023 release. The video shows a silhouette reminiscent of a gimbal camera unit and a zoom-in effect into the lens, highlighting an object that appears to be an image sensor. The sensor is depicted as looking taller than the existing 4:3 ratio, raising the possibility of a new sensor format.

On the camera configuration, contrary to earlier suggestions that it could carry dual cameras, the teaser emphasizes a structure that appears to be a single image sensor located at the center of the gimbal. This is not officially confirmed and is closer to an interpretation based on the video’s presentation. Some had earlier suggested a multi-camera system like DJI’s high-performance drones Air 3S or Mavic 4, but it is hard to be certain based on information released so far.

On the hardware side, changes aimed at improving ease of operation have been spotted. According to leaked unboxing videos and images, the Osmo Pocket 4 appears to keep an overall design similar to the previous model while adding two physical buttons. One is a dedicated button for precise zoom control, which is expected to address inconvenience with touch-screen-based operation. Another C button is said to possibly offer a customizable function for quickly controlling gimbal mode switching or shooting parameters depending on user settings.

For expandability, attention is on a magnetic attachment structure applied to the back of the gimbal head. For now, it appears intended for mounting modular auxiliary lighting, but some have also raised the possibility of broader accessory expansion later. For example, analysis suggests usability could widen if a structure is provided to attach and detach a small shotgun microphone magnetically. There is also a view that this could act as a variable in a competitive dynamic with the gimbal camera Luna, which rival Insta360 has said it will launch.

Official information on the Osmo Pocket 4 is set to be released at 9 p.m. on April 16. Separately, leaked information has raised the possibility that a global launch could follow starting with the Chinese market, but a detailed schedule has not yet been confirmed. The industry is watching the possibility that the new product will keep the existing model’s design while focusing on improving user convenience and real-world use conditions.
