Cryptocurrency investors are viewing the market’s growth potential, competitive landscape and future gains in trading activity too conservatively, according to an analysis that points to asset tokenisation and AI agents as forces that could reshape market size and trading. Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan listed three common misconceptions: limiting crypto platforms’ addressable markets to today’s crypto market, assuming big traditional finance firms will easily overwhelm crypto-native companies, and underestimating how fast blockchain transactions could rise.

Bitcoin surges as tech stocks stall, driving short liquidations

Bitcoin jumped to the $69,000 range, triggering forced liquidations of $1.22 billion in short positions in just 1 hour, the report said. Ether broke above $2,000 and solana rose 11.52 percent to $85.41. CoinGlass data showed $1.46 billion in positions across 111,060 traders were liquidated over 24 hours, led by bitcoin. Market participants also pointed to a divergence between weaker AI-related stocks and stronger crypto prices.
