Government launches AX Sprint to support rapid commercialisation of AI applications
South Korea\'s government will launch a joint programme involving 11 ministries from March to speed up the commercialisation of AI-based products and services. The AX Sprint project targets areas closely linked to daily life and industry, including manufacturing, agriculture and transport, and focuses on products that can reach the market within 1 to 2 years. The government will invest 754.0 billion won in 2026 to 2027, including 473.5 billion won in grants and subsidies and 140.0 billion won in loans.

MSIT launches outstanding performance awards for civil servants, holds first prize ceremony
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT has created an \"Outstanding Performance\" awards scheme for civil servants to spread a culture of workplace innovation across the organisation. The ministry held its first prize ceremony on March 16. The programme is an internal staff encouragement system alongside a government-wide special performance bonus scheme. The ministry plans to select 2 outstanding employees each month and pay each 350,000 won.

Customised pre-screening for large R&D to speed up reviews and cut budget waste
South Korea will scrap preliminary feasibility studies for R&D projects and introduce a formal pre-screening system aimed at shortening review times and preventing budget waste. The Ministry of Science and ICT said a comprehensive overhaul plan was approved on Feb. 12. The threshold for large R&D subject to pre-screening will rise to 100 billion won from 50 billion won. Projects will be split into research-type and infrastructure-type, with research-type undergoing planning checks and infrastructure-type managed under a full life-cycle review system.
