South Korea grants conditional approval for Google high-precision map data export
South Korea has conditionally approved Google\'s export of 1:5,000 high-precision map data that the company has sought since 2007. The decision followed a meeting of an inter-agency panel led by the transport ministry. Approval is tied to security requirements covering satellite and aerial imagery, Street View, coordinate displays and restricted data scope, with processing on domestic servers and government checks. The decision is linked to U.S.-South Korea tariff talks and may reshape the local map market.
