Anthropic Mithos bypasses Apple\'s 5-year macOS security technology in five days
A privilege-escalation exploit has emerged that bypasses Apple’s next-generation memory protection technology, Memory Integrity Enforcement (MIE), developed over five years. CalypsoAI said it used Anthropic’s AI model Mithos in preview to produce attack code targeting M5 chip-based Macs in five days. The exploit combined two macOS vulnerabilities and multiple techniques to obtain root access from a local user account. CalypsoAI said it has shared details with Apple and plans to publish a report after a patch.

Apple has rolled out updates across its platforms, including iOS 26.5, with end-to-end encryption support for RCS messages as a key change. The encrypted RCS beta is limited to some carriers, with wider support planned, and encrypted chats show a lock icon. The update also adds a downloadable Pride Luminance wallpaper, introduces Maps recommendations based on popular places and recent searches, and improves reminders and USB-C accessory pairing.
