Korea to bring forward separate storage of resident registration numbers and linked information to January
South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Communications Commission said on Thursday it is seeking to revise a public notice to move up the start date for separate storage of resident registration numbers and linked information (CI) by four months. It reported a revision to standards on CI generation and processing at a full commission meeting. The change would move the start date to Jan. 1 from May 1, 2027. The commission cited recent leak incidents involving both items.

Itemmania introduces game item trade linkage service with Rasalas
Item trading platform Itemmania is launching a new technical cooperation model with MMORPG Rasalas that directly connects the game’s in-game trading system with the platform. Itemmania, operated by IMI, said on Thursday it has introduced the industry’s first “game item trade linkage service,” the first case of technical integration between a game company’s system and an item trading platform. The service links systems via an API and streamlines sales registration, deal completion and item transfer.

Tving hack also leaks \'digital resident number\', raising fears of secondary harm
A data breach at South Korean streaming platform Tving has expanded fears of secondary harm after linked information (CI) was included among leaked items. An unidentified hacker allegedly gained unauthorised access to Tving’s user database and sent customer data outside the company. Authorities including the Ministry of Science and ICT, KISA and the Personal Information Protection Commission have launched investigations, while experts warn CI can enable identity theft when combined with other personal details.
