Kim Jong-cheol (김종철), chair of the Korea Broadcasting Media and Communications Commission, will meet the heads of the three mobile carriers to hear industry views and flesh out related policies.
The commission said on Feb. 24 it will hold separate meetings on pending issues with Jeong Jae-heon (정재헌), CEO of SK Telecom, Kim Young-seob (김영섭), CEO of KT, and Hong Beom-sik (홍범식), CEO of LG Uplus, over two days on Feb. 25 and 27.
The meetings will specify the commission's telecommunications policy direction after it was launched in October last year and gather views from the telecoms industry. The commission and the carriers plan to discuss public livelihood issues such as follow-up steps related to the handset subsidy law that was abolished last year and measures to protect users of artificial intelligence services. They will also cover strengthening responses to illegal spam, bolstering the safety of identity verification and linked information, and improving the effectiveness of telecom dispute mediation.
Kim said, "I will pursue balanced policies so that we can create a communications environment that people can use with confidence and lay the foundation for a sustainably developing communications industry."
