South Korean banks\' Q1 net profit falls 3.9 percent on securities losses
South Korean banks\' net profit in the first quarter slipped 3.9 percent from a year earlier to 6.7 trillion won, hit by a fall in non-interest income as valuation losses on securities widened amid rising market rates. Interest income rose 6.4 percent to 15.8 trillion won on loan growth and a higher net interest margin. Return on assets and return on equity both declined from a year earlier.

Hana Financial offers free mobile eye checkups for seniors in medically underserved areas
Hana Financial Group is stepping up inclusive initiatives linking healthcare and finance in areas with weak medical infrastructure. The group said it carried out a “free mobile eye checkup” programme at a senior welfare centre in Chungnam on May 18. The programme targets older people who have limited access to ophthalmology services and face difficulty travelling for care. Hana plans 20 rounds of checkups, with referrals and free glasses and eye drops.

KakaoBank launches \'livelihood account\' protecting 2.5 million won a month
KakaoBank has launched a new account designed to protect minimum living expenses even in the event of seizure. The policy-linked product supports financially vulnerable groups and offers seizure protection for deposits of up to 2.5 million won per month. Customers aged 14 and older can sign up, but the account can be opened at only one financial institution. KakaoBank will provide a 2 percent base interest rate through the end of this year and will run a promotional event tied to sign-ups.
