Spain\'s largest bank Santander discloses $4.3 million investment in bitcoin ETF

Banco Santander, Spain\'s largest bank, disclosed it invested about $4.3 million in BlackRock’s spot bitcoin exchange-traded fund. The bank said in a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing that it holds 129,615 shares of the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT). The investment uses a spot bitcoin ETF rather than direct purchase or custody. The disclosure comes as competition among bitcoin ETFs intensifies and total U.S. bitcoin ETF assets continue to grow.

Bitcoin institutional demand harder to see beyond ETFs as collateral loan risks rise

Risks in the bitcoin market are shifting from spot exchange-traded fund inflows and outflows to forced liquidation zones created by collateralised lending structures, an analysis said. As institutions spread capital across options-income products, bitcoin-backed loans and structured credit, ETF flows alone no longer show real supply and demand.
