GM to close Michigan plant that made Cadillac batteries in summer 2027
General Motors will close its Brownstown battery assembly plant in Michigan in the summer of 2027 as electric vehicle demand slows and the automaker reshapes its production strategy. The facility has produced high-voltage batteries for the Cadillac Celestiq and components for the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray. Headcount has fallen to fewer than 12. GM has also exited battery joint venture plans in Indiana and a Lansing project, and ended fuel-cell cooperation with Honda.

Toyota to produce next-generation Corolla in China from 2028, including EV
Toyota plans to produce an all-electric version of its Corolla from 2028 in China, using a platform that supports EV, hybrid and internal combustion powertrains. Production will be carried out through FAW Toyota, its joint venture with state-owned automaker FAW Group. The next Corolla lineup is expected to include an EV, plug-in hybrid, hybrid and gasoline versions. Toyota also plans to produce next-generation Lexus EVs in China from 2027.

Bitcoin stays rangebound as Fed hike fears ease, focus turns to U.S. data
Bitcoin may continue trading in a range with no clear direction even as concerns about further U.S. rate hikes have eased, a report said. CoinShares said stronger-than-expected U.S. inflation and consumption data briefly lifted expectations of another hike, but those odds fell after Fed Chair Kevin Warsh did not signal additional tightening. Bitcoin has already come under pressure, and crypto investment products saw outflows last week. Investors are focused on upcoming U.S. data including PCE inflation, the jobs report and CPI.
