MegazoneCloud, KISTI co-host quantum computing hackathon to seek solutions to industry challenges
MegazoneCloud and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information co-hosted the finals of the Quantum Reframing Challenge 2026 quantum computing hackathon on Aug. 26. The grand prize went to Quanskkuad, a team of three Sungkyunkwan University students, for analyzing copper catalyst efficiency in converting carbon dioxide to ethylene. The event drew 214 participants from 73 teams, including students, researchers and industry workers.

Corporate restructuring scheme opens path for mid-sized, SMEs into advanced industries
More mid-sized and small companies are entering advanced industries using South Korea’s corporate restructuring scheme. The Industry Ministry panel approved 31 firms in three rounds from December to July, with plans to invest 439.5 billion won over five years and hire 927 people. Many shift existing process technologies into new markets such as semiconductor glass substrates, AR modules and EV components. The ministry is offering investment-attraction consulting, while petrochemicals pursue capacity cuts through separate restructuring projects.

Hanwha Solutions Q2 operating profit 306.5 billion won, up 200 percent on year
Hanwha Solutions posted a second consecutive quarter of profit across all divisions, reporting consolidated second-quarter sales of 4.58 trillion won and operating profit of 306.5 billion won. Sales rose 47.01 percent and operating profit climbed 200.33 percent from a year earlier, with an operating margin of 6.7 percent. Renewable energy, chemicals and advanced materials all remained profitable for a second straight quarter.
