MIT finds clue to key hurdle in all-solid-state batteries
A study found that a key cause of short circuits in all-solid-state batteries lies in grain boundaries inside solid electrolytes. Researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Technical University of Munich identified a main driver of lithium-metal dendrite growth and proposed a process solution to reduce it. Using AI and analysis methods, they tracked current flow and adjusted electrolyte processing to cut damage and energy loss. They said current density rose by more than 300 percent in tests.

Solus Advanced Materials secures zero-defect plated current collector for all-solid-state batteries
Solus Advanced Materials said on Monday it has completed development of a nickel-plated copper foil current collector, a key material for all-solid-state batteries, and has begun scaling up for mass production. The company aims to secure both technological and cost competitiveness for the all-solid-state battery market expected to commercialize around 2027. It said its plating technology achieves zero-defect coating even on ultrathin foil under 500 nanometers.

Hana Technology moves to commercialise next-generation pulse charge-discharge technology
Hana Technology has established a pulse charge-discharge subsidiary, Hana Celltron, to take charge of business using pulse technology, the company said on Tuesday. Pulse technology periodically controls current flow to reduce stress inside batteries and minimise physical and chemical burdens, it said. The firm said this can shorten charge and discharge time, suppress dendrite formation, improve safety and extend battery life. Hana Celltron will offer equipment and total solutions, Hana Technology said.
