South Korea draws up nanotechnology master plan, upgrades national strategic technology framework
The South Korean government will step up its next-generation science and technology strategy by drawing up a comprehensive nanotechnology research plan every five years. The National Science and Technology Advisory Council reviewed and approved the sixth nanotechnology master plan for 2026 to 2035 and a plan to upgrade the national strategic technology framework. The government also derived 55 “NEXT national strategic technologies” and plans to invest 60 trillion won in strategic technologies over the next five years.

MSIT to expand climate response technology development with 3.4 trillion won investment
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT said on Wednesday it is accelerating technology development to respond to climate change to implement government policy tasks and meet its 2035 greenhouse gas reduction target. The ministry has drawn up a 2026 implementation plan under its first basic plan for climate response technology development. It plans to invest 3.42 trillion won this year across emissions cuts, adaptation and an innovation ecosystem, up 14.1 percent from a year earlier.

Hanwha Solutions, KAIST file 34 petrochemistry core technology patents
Hanwha Solutions and KAIST said on Jan. 23 they filed a total of 34 patent applications through joint industry-academia research. They said the results came from the KAIST-Hanwha Solutions Institute of Future Technology and helped secure competitiveness in next-generation petrochemical core technologies focused on energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. The partners signed an agreement in November 2015 and established the institute in 2016.
