Opentrade has raised $17 million in a funding round, bringing its total funding to more than $30 million, a recent report by The Block said. The London-based company provides institutional-grade onchain lending, real-world asset-backed lending and stablecoin yield products. It plans to use the funds to expand infrastructure across permissioned and permissionless systems, including a permissionless protocol layer and a framework it calls curation.

The term stablecoin no longer reflects technological progress and has become an outdated label from crypto’s early days, Cointelegraph reported, citing a16z crypto special projects lead Robert Hackett. Hackett said the term was coined when extreme volatility dominated markets, but stability is now a baseline rather than the defining feature. Developer and brand adviser John Palmer said the name feels like a bug and stablecoins deserve a new identity. Hackett said alternatives are awkward and early terms often endure.
