[Digital Today reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] Robby Petersen (로비 피터슨), a partner at Silicon Valley venture capital firm a16z Crypto, recently said in a company blog post that blockchain will explosively expand financial markets.

He said blockchain is lowering barriers to entering traditional financial markets.

Petersen said, "To create a new market in traditional finance, you have to get past listing reviews, legal procedures and regional restrictions," adding, "Blockchain is lowering those barriers by letting anyone issue assets and distribute them worldwide."

Petersen cited perpetual futures as a representative example. He said perpetual futures make it possible to trade traditional risk assets such as stocks and commodities on-chain 24 hours a day, year-round. Annualised on-chain real-world asset (RWA) perpetual futures trading volume reached about 1.4 trillion dollars in July 2026.

Petersen said he expects on-chain markets to eventually cover macro indicators such as foreign exchange, indexes, computing power futures and the consumer price index (CPI).
