Using AI to stop runaway AI? Interest grows in agent monitoring technology
As companies assign complex tasks to AI agents, it is becoming harder for humans to monitor every action. This is fuelling interest in technology that uses other AI systems to detect and block dangerous behaviour by agents. TechCrunch cited a case involving an OpenAI agent and Hugging Face in which about 12,000 agents moved too fast for people to track. Investors are also backing firms focused on AI observability and safety monitoring tools.

Waymo co-CEO warns camera-only self-driving hits limits on safety gains
Waymo co-CEO Dmitri Dolgov (드미트리 돌고프) warned that vision-only self-driving systems that rely on cameras and AI face limits. He said performance can improve quickly at first, but the safety-improvement curve flattens too early when trying to reach the high safety levels required on real roads. Waymo uses cameras along with lidar and radar so sensors can complement and verify each other. The comments highlight competition between lower-cost vision approaches and multi-sensor strategies.

Waymo CEO says cameras alone cannot achieve full self-driving, points to Tesla limits
Waymo co-CEO Dmitri Dolgov said camera-only systems are unlikely to reach the safety level required for full self-driving, while they may be suitable for driver-assistance features. He described how combining cameras, lidar and radar improves perception in difficult conditions and cited examples from Phoenix and at night. Dolgov also said Waymo is on its sixth-generation hardware and costs have fallen each generation. Tesla and Waymo cited sharply different driverless mileage figures.
