FIFA agrees sharply lower China broadcast fee for 2026 World Cup
FIFA has sold mainland China broadcasting rights for the 2026 North American World Cup to China Media Group (CMG) for about $60 million, a report said. The figure is less than half of what FIFA had expected in early talks, which were said to be $250 million to $300 million. The deal also includes rights for FIFA tournaments in 2027, 2030 and 2031, covering free-to-air TV, streaming and mobile platforms, including 4K and 8K.

Japan\'s KDDI to take 14.9% stake in Coincheck Group for $65 million
Japan\'s telecommunications company KDDI will invest $65 million to acquire a 14.9% stake in Coincheck Group. CoinDesk reported that KDDI agreed to buy 28.5 million newly issued shares at $2.28 each, with the deal expected to close in June. The companies also signed a business partnership involving customer referrals, revenue sharing and referral fees, aiming to broaden crypto access in Japan by combining KDDI channels with Coincheck services.

Japan corporate-led blockchain to issue yen stablecoin for B2B payments
The Japan Blockchain Foundation plans to issue EJPY, a yen-pegged stablecoin, on Japan Open Chain and Ethereum. The token is designed as a trust-based stablecoin for uses including business-to-business payments, digital asset payments, remittances and payments for Web3 services. The foundation will act as consignor and is in talks with trustee candidates. Detailed issuance conditions have not been set, but it is targeting a launch within the year.
