Naver Pay (Npay) will apply NFT-based digital tickets to the National Sports Festival to be held in Jeju. It will use NFTs not only for entry to the opening and closing ceremonies but also for verifying stadium attendance, and will link verification records to Jeju local currency and tourist-site discount benefits.

Naver Pay said on Oct. 14 it will introduce an Npay Wallet-based NFT ticket and visit verification system for the 107th National Sports Festival, which opens on Oct. 16 in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province. This is the first time NFT digital tickets have been applied to the National Sports Festival.

Spectators can receive opening and closing ceremony NFT tickets by applying for digital tickets on the National Sports Festival website and opening an Npay Wallet linked to their Naver ID. At the opening and closing ceremonies held at Jeju World Cup Stadium, entry will be with NFT tickets instead of paper tickets.

Npay Wallet is a Web3 digital asset wallet service that can be used based on a Naver ID. It can store and manage NFT-format tickets, and Naver Pay explained that this can reduce ticket forgery and alteration as well as illicit trading.

NFTs will also be used to record attendance. Volunteers will be provided separate commemorative NFTs, and issued NFTs can be stored in the Npay Wallet.

It will also link Jeju local currency and tourism benefits. If a person applies for a National Sports Festival NFT ticket and verifies attendance at the opening or closing ceremony or at a stadium event, they will receive 10,000 won in Tamna-jeon per verification. Each person can receive up to 20,000 won, which can be used at restaurants and cafes, traditional markets and tourist sites on the island.

At 24 public tourist sites in Jeju, including Seongsan Ilchulbong and the Jeju Museum of Art, visitors can receive reduced admission fees or a 50 percent discount by presenting an NFT ticket or participation pass.

Mi-young Lee (이미영), lead for Pay Infrastructure & Business at Naver Pay, said, "We will expand services linked to the Npay Wallet in sports and entertainment to provide spectators with a new content experience."
