Skepticism grows over frontier AI as China\'s low-cost models close in; OpenAI, Anthropic under scrutiny
A claim has emerged that the heavy investment burden carried by U.S. frontier AI companies such as OpenAI and Anthropic could become a risk factor as low-cost Chinese AI models catch up. Scott Wilson, chief investment officer for Washington University in St. Louis’ endowment, said the firms are valued highly relative to their obligations and warned that a surge in free or low-cost models could squeeze profitability amid large infrastructure spending.

KAIST develops automated screening technology for 2D semiconductors
KAIST said on Wednesday its researchers developed a technology that automatically screens 2D semiconductors using only optical microscope images and connects the process to transistor fabrication. The joint study used molybdenum disulfide and differences in RGB brightness by thickness to automate selection and electrode design. Verified with atomic force microscopy, the method distinguished 3 to 8 layers, screened suitable samples from more than 120,000 flakes, and produced and analyzed 1,615 transistors.

Shinhan Securities runs programme for George Washington University training group
Shinhan Securities ran a Korea capital markets field experience programme for a training group from the Korea Studies Institute at George Washington University in the United States. The company said on May 25 it held the programme on May 22 for participants in the institute’s 2026 Summer Study Abroad Program. The short course runs from May 17 to May 30 and includes 12 participants, including students and a supervising professor.
