BMC opens call for entries for 2026 Viewer Media Awards, deadline Sept. 7
South Korea’s Broadcasting Media Communication Commission is inviting public submissions for the 2026 Viewer Media Awards broadcast video contest, with entries accepted from July 6 to Sept. 7. The contest, now in its 12th year, is open to anyone. Awards are split between a Works Prize for viewer-made content and a Special Prize for individuals or groups contributing to viewer participation in broadcasting. AI-assisted works are allowed.

Samsung Electronics selected for free TV programme for disabled for seventh straight year
Samsung Electronics said on Wednesday it has been selected for a seventh straight year as a supplier for the Broadcasting and Media Communications Commission\'s programme to provide free TVs for the visually and hearing impaired. The Korea Communications Agency\'s Viewer Media Foundation will choose recipients by priority. Samsung will supply 35,000 43-inch full HD smart TVs from late this month through year-end. Low-income disabled users receive them free, while others pay 100,000 won.

Assembly science committee approves bill to set up Korea Broadcast Media Telecom Promotion Agency
South Korea’s National Assembly Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee approved amendments to create the Korea Broadcast Media Telecom Promotion Agency under a broadcast media telecom commission. The bill would merge the Korea Broadcast Advertising Corp and the Viewer Media Foundation, dissolving both on launch, with a planned 2027 start. The proposal faces hurdles including opposition party resistance, disputes over employment succession and business scope, and pushback from related ministries and organisations.
