The Broadcast Media and Telecommunications Commission on Jan. 12 held a public agency work briefing at the Gwacheon government complex for the Korea Broadcast Advertising Corporation and the Viewer Media Foundation. The commission reviewed the two agencies' organisational and management status, state tasks and progress on key projects.

Min Young-sam, president of the Korea Broadcast Advertising Corporation, and Choi Cheol-ho, chairman of the Viewer Media Foundation, attended in person and reported key issues for each agency.

The briefing was disclosed via the commission’s official YouTube channel to strengthen administrative transparency and openness. Of the 2-hour session, 1 hour was livestreamed, and the remaining hour will be released after recording.

At the Korea Broadcast Advertising Corporation briefing, drawing up management innovation measures to address operating losses was presented as a key task. Items reviewed also included introducing a "cross-media rep" system to allow broadcast advertising sales agencies to sell online and mobile advertising together, supporting regional and small and medium-sized broadcasters, and ensuring smooth implementation of public-interest projects such as broadcast advertising support for small and medium-sized companies and small merchants.

At the Viewer Media Foundation briefing, schedules and implementation measures were reported for key policy tasks centred on strengthening the public’s right to access media and media capability. They included expanding media education, expanding viewer participation and strengthening media access rights for people with disabilities.

Commission Chair Kim Jong-cheol said that as the ministry has become responsible for broadcasting overall, including broadcast media promotion work, public agencies also need to actively identify new promotion-related projects. He said the agencies should also seek improvement measures such as project adjustments so budgets can be used most efficiently.
