UK ranks crypto third economic crime priority, tightens money laundering probes

British investigators have identified crypto assets as a key risk factor in tackling money laundering and fraud and are moving to strengthen their investigative capabilities. Crypto assets were classified as the third item among the United Kingdom\'s nine economic crime response priorities. The National Economic Crime Centre said criminal groups use cryptocurrencies to evade detection and move illicit funds at scale, and it plans a more proactive, intelligence-led approach.

Kalshi U.S. visitors surge more than 1,500 percent as sports betting drives growth

U.S. prediction market platform Kalshi’s U.S. website visitors jumped more than 1,500 percent in less than a year, driven by a surge in sports prediction contracts and a sharp rise in trading. Similarweb estimates showed 15.4 million U.S. visits in July, up from under 1 million in August 2025. Dune Analytics data put August notional volume at about $40 billion, while legal disputes grow over whether the products are financial instruments or sports gambling.

Instant payments success decided by ecosystems, not infrastructure

Instant payments do not automatically spread simply because a real-time payment network has been built, an analysis showed. Adoption speed depends more on existing national payment ecosystems, including card and cash habits, merchant participation and pricing policies. McKinsey classified the global market into three types: markets where instant payments are the main method, those where they complement card ecosystems, and those where they compete with entrenched habits. India and Brazil were cited as success cases.
