[DigitalToday reporter Lee Ji-young (이지영)] Toss Bank debit card holders have surpassed 10 million. Cumulative payments have also topped 3.1 billion transactions since launch, expanding its use as a day-to-day payment method.

Toss Bank said on Sunday that, as of June 30, the number of pure debit card holding customers surpassed 10 million.

Actual payment use is also steadily rising. As of the end of June, cumulative payments made with Toss Bank debit cards totalled 3.1 billion transactions. Offline payments accounted for 89.5 percent and online payments for 10.5 percent.

By category, transportation had the highest share at 24.2 percent. It was followed by convenience stores at 18.3 percent, non-face-to-face payments such as online shopping and simple payments at 10.5 percent, general restaurants at 7.0 percent and coffee shops at 5.1 percent.

The customer base of cardholders has also broadened. By age group, people in their 20s had the highest share at 25.1 percent, followed by those in their 30s at 20.7 percent, 40s at 20.3 percent, 50s at 15.4 percent, teens at 11.2 percent and those aged 60 or older at 7.3 percent. The oldest customer was 106.

Toss Bank expanded eligibility for debit card issuance in June to those aged 7 or older. As a result, the conversion rate from the 'Kids Account' to the 'Kids Card' rose to the 71 percent range from about 50 percent previously.

Use has also expanded in overseas payments. Among top countries for overseas payments, Japan had the highest share at 31.3 percent. It was followed by the United States at 12.5 percent, the United Kingdom at 7.1 percent, Vietnam at 5.9 percent and China at 5.3 percent.

A Toss Bank official said, "Based on the payment experience chosen by 10 million customers, we will continue to build card services that anyone can use easily and conveniently, regardless of age or lifestyle."
