Toss signs MOU with Korea Franchise Industry Association to expand Facepay
Viva Republica, operator of Toss, has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding with the Korea Franchise Industry Association to promote payment innovation in the franchise sector centred on its face-recognition payment service, Facepay. The agreement was signed in Seoul on April 13. The association will support adoption among member companies, while Toss will provide payment infrastructure and technology. The two sides also plan joint promotion, initial technical support and training programmes.

Korean financial firms target Lunar New Year demand with mobile branches and holiday events
South Korea\'s financial sector is moving to capture Lunar New Year demand, from supporting new banknote exchanges through mobile branches at highway rest stops to running holiday-themed promotions and refunding online merchant fees. Major commercial banks will operate temporary outlets on key expressways, while some will run fraud-prevention campaigns. Fintech platforms are offering rewards, points and quizzes tied to holiday spending, and Toss will fully support certain online merchants\' payment fees for a limited period.

Asung Daiso runs 2026 New Year payment event
Asung Daiso said on Jan. 6 it will hold a New Year on- and offline payment event for customers using simple payment services at Daiso Mall and Daiso stores. At Daiso Mall, customers paying 30,000 won or more via a Toss Pay account from Jan. 5 to Feb. 4 will receive a 2 percent instant discount of up to 2,000 won. First-time Toss Pay users can earn an extra 3,000 points. In stores, first payments of 1,000 won or more via KakaoPay Money from Jan. 7 to Feb. 6 will earn instant KakaoPay points up to 1,000 points.
