AI costs rise, boosting startups that optimize AI spending
PointFive, a startup that optimises AI cloud costs, has raised $60 million in a funding round led by Accel, the Wall Street Journal reported. The company was valued at about $500 million. Founded in 2023, PointFive helps companies identify and reduce unnecessary AI-related cloud spending and suggests cost-cutting steps such as using cheaper AI models. CEO Alon Arvatz said waste can reach millions of dollars annually at large firms.

Anthropic says AI development should slow, warns self-improvement is near
Anthropic has urged major AI labs to slow the pace of AI development, the Wall Street Journal reported. In a blog post, it warned AI systems are nearing “recursive self-improvement,” in which they could enhance themselves without human intervention. The post proposed a global agreement to slow development and a system to verify compliance. Anthropic plans discussions with policymakers and researchers in coming months. Critics say the warnings may serve competitive or marketing aims.

Anthropic launches Claude Partner Network for AI product sales
Anthropic has formalised a third-party partner programme to sell its Claude AI products, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday. The company received more than 40,000 applications after launching the Claude Partner Network in March and is starting with about 100 firms, ranging from large professional services companies to smaller consultancies and IT providers. Anthropic also introduced partner tiers and launched a portal to manage partners and connect customers.
