[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] Nvidia is negotiating options to make an additional investment in open-source AI startup ReflectionAI or to acquire the company outright, Reuters reported on Oct. 10 (local time), citing the Financial Times (FT).
The talks are at an early stage, the report said. The structure could take several forms. An "acqhire" is also under consideration, in which Nvidia would not acquire the company but would hire its staff and buy rights to use its technology, taking into account the possibility of avoiding regulatory scrutiny.
An agreement could come within weeks, but the talks could also collapse, Reuters reported.
ReflectionAI declined to comment on the FT report. Nvidia did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Nvidia is already a major investor in ReflectionAI, having invested $800 million. ReflectionAI was founded in 2024 by former Google DeepMind researchers Misha Laskin (미샤 라스킨) and Ioannis Antonoglou (이오아니스 안토노글루), and on Oct. 5 unveiled its first open-weight model, "Bim."
Nvidia has recently been making aggressive moves to increase its stakes in the open-weight AI model space led by Chinese companies.

Earlier, it signed a $6 billion licensing deal with coding AI startup Poolside. That includes hiring most of Poolside's engineers.
In this regard, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that Nvidia will use Poolside to speed development of a world-class open-weight model that can compete with Chinese AI companies such as DeepSeek and Kimi K3.
In March, Nvidia also introduced the Nemotron Alliance, an open-model coalition that includes Mistral, Thinking Machines Lab and Perplexity.
