U.S. Senate panel moves to bar Chinese EV sales; Tesla shifts from EVs to robots
The U.S. Senate Commerce Committee plans a vote on a bipartisan bill that would effectively ban Chinese automakers from selling passenger EVs in the United States and further restrict entry into the small-car market. Tesla is removing the Model S and Model X assembly line at its Fremont plant and converting the space for humanoid robot Optimus production. Tesla will shift its supervised FSD option in South Korea from a lump-sum payment to a monthly subscription from Aug. 10.

Tesla FSD switches to subscription from Aug. 10; one-off 9.04 million won to 150,000 won a month
Tesla Korea will change how it sells its supervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) option from a one-off payment to a monthly subscription from Aug. 10. The current one-time price of 9,043,000 won including VAT will be replaced by a 150,000 won-a-month plan, applied to all models. Enhanced Autopilot will no longer be available for new purchase on U.S.-built vehicles after Aug. 10, while China-built vehicles will keep the option at 4,522,000 won including VAT.
