OpenAI prepares inference residency in South Korea, in talks with local partners to secure GPUs
OpenAI is preparing to introduce “inference residency” in South Korea so Korean users’ AI inference computing is handled at domestic data centres. OpenAI Korea chief Kim Kyung-hoon said the company is discussing securing GPUs and cloud infrastructure with several local partners and expects to offer the service in the near term. OpenAI already supports data residency in Korea, but some data can move overseas during inference.

ElevenLabs plans to build data residency in South Korea to meet local companies\' data security and storage requirements and accelerate its push into enterprise voice AI. Eugene Liang (유진 리앙), the company’s Asia-Pacific head, said data residency is already in place in Singapore and discussions are under way for Korea, though no timeline has been set. Postal worker finds burning truck during deliveries, saves driver
A postal worker in South Korea spotted a fire in a freight truck while delivering mail, helped the driver evacuate and extinguished the flames, the Korea Post said on Tuesday. Lim Seung-man of the Seoul Gangnam Post Office saw smoke from a stopped truck near the Daemosan Station intersection on Aug. 20. He obtained a fire extinguisher from a nearby community centre and put out the fire. No firefighters were dispatched.
