Growing political backlash builds as data centre investment spreads, raising AI bubble warning signs
Business and politics are moving in different directions over data centres, Axios reported. The data centre business is booming, with both listed and unlisted company shares rising and related energy and equipment firms benefiting. Political reaction is turning more negative across party lines, with New York halting large new projects for a period and other states adding regulatory hurdles. Investors expect the backlash to fade, but tensions could spread nationally.

Trump says AI could be bigger than the internet, highlights datacentre expansion to compete with China
U.S. President Donald Trump said AI could become a bigger industry than the internet and that regulation should not choke growth as the United States competes with China. Speaking at a White House event with crypto industry figures and financial regulators, he also backed expanding AI infrastructure, including datacentres. Trump said companies should build power plants for datacentres rather than rely on ageing grids. Opposition is rising over power bills, water use and environmental impact, prompting protests and tougher state action.

U.S. researchers develop mini CPU that computes with solar power, raising prospects for battery-free semiconductors
Researchers at Pennsylvania State University have developed a self-powered integrated circuit that harvests energy from ambient light, detects chemicals in liquid and performs computing without a battery. The chip vertically integrates a graphene sensor, semiconductor logic and a silicon solar cell in a three-layer structure using 2D materials such as MoS2 and WSe2. The team said tighter integration can cut area, interconnect length, power loss and signal delay, with potential use in hard-to-access IoT and edge devices.
