FSC to urgently check payment gateway security risks, including indirect attacks via merchants

South Korea\'s financial authorities carried out an urgent check of security vulnerabilities and incident response systems at payment gateway (PG) firms amid a series of recent breaches. They discussed expanding oversight beyond PG systems to include indirect attacks via merchants with weaker security. Toss Payments says not a system hack as 4,131 transactions viewed at one merchant

Toss Payments said a merchant card-information viewing incident did not stem from a hack of its systems. It said authentication credentials used for a payment integration platform were exposed on one merchant’s website, and a third party used them to collect additional information and view the merchant’s payment records. The firm said 4,131 transactions involving 2,671 people were affected and that it notified all impacted individuals.

Toss Payments signs strategic MOU with Visa to boost payment competitiveness at home and abroad

Toss Payments, Toss’s payment gateway affiliate, is moving to cooperate with global payments company Visa to strengthen payment security and advance services. Toss Payments said on Sept. 8 it signed a strategic memorandum of understanding with Visa on Sept. 7 in Seoul’s Gangnam district. The two companies plan to explore cooperation in domestic and overseas payment markets, based on their technologies, operating capabilities and global networks.
