[DigitalToday reporter Ji-young Lee] Danal is joining the global Open Standard ecosystem and will build payment and settlement infrastructure using the dollar-based stablecoin Open USD (OUSD).
Danal said on Aug. 21 it is the first domestic payment gateway provider to join the Open Standard ecosystem and has joined as an OUSD participant.
According to Danal, Open Standard is a consortium with participation from about 140 companies worldwide, including Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, Samsung Electronics and Google. It is seeking to build an OUSD ecosystem that can be used for digital fund payments between companies.
OUSD is a dollar-based stablecoin in which governance is handled by a consortium board rather than a single issuer. It is expected to be launched natively on major blockchain networks including Solana and Base.
Danal plans to use its participation to gradually introduce OUSD-based payment and settlement functions across its merchant network and payment infrastructure. It also plans to link its existing payment infrastructure with blockchain networks and expand its business scope into cross-border payments and digital-asset settlement.
Danal plans to expand the scope of OUSD applications in line with domestic legal and institutional developments and pursue blockchain-based payment services with a focus on Asian markets.
A Danal official said, "As the first domestic PG company to join the Open Standard ecosystem, this participation will serve as an opportunity to connect traditional finance with next-generation digital finance."
