Coinbase enters Canada\'s derivatives market, launches BTC, ETH, SOL futures

Coinbase has started offering cryptocurrency derivatives trading services in Canada. Eligible investors can trade perpetual and fixed-expiry futures linked to bitcoin, ether and solana. The platform offers 23 crypto futures, five commodity futures and Coinbase 50 index products, with trades executed via Coinbase Financial Markets, a CFTC-registered futures commission merchant. Access is limited to qualified Canadian clients, including those with at least $5 million in net financial assets, and contracts support up to 10x leverage.

LG Energy Solution starts full operations at Lansing plant making ESS and EV batteries

LG Energy Solution is stepping up local production in the North American battery market by launching full operations at its Lansing plant in Michigan. The company held an opening ceremony on Aug. 19 attended by Governor Gretchen Whitmer, U.S. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and CEO Kim Dong-myung (김동명). The plant will produce LFP batteries for energy storage systems and NCM batteries for electric vehicles, with annual capacity of more than 35 GWh.

Canada\'s Ontario medical AI riddled with errors, audit finds

An audit found repeated serious errors in AI clinical note tools approved for use in Ontario, Canada. In simulated consultations, 12 of 20 systems recorded drug names that differed from actual prescriptions and 9 generated treatment plans not in the recordings. Seventeen systems missed key mental health information. The report also flagged flaws in evaluation criteria and the lack of mandatory physician sign-off. A health ministry spokesperson said more than 5,000 doctors participate and no patient harm has been confirmed so far.
