LG Energy Solution's Canadian production unit NextStar Energy said on Thursday it has produced its 1 millionth battery cell.

Located in Windsor, Ontario, NextStar Energy began full-scale cell production in November. It accelerated output and reached the milestone of 1 million cells in three months. The company said early yield stabilisation, backed by extensive experience operating global production facilities, helped it ramp up quickly.

NextStar Energy is producing LFP-based pouch long cells for energy storage systems. It is mass-producing products steadily through advanced processes, cutting-edge automation systems and systematic quality verification. It plans to more than double output this year.

The NextStar Energy plant is a large battery manufacturing facility with a total investment of 5 billion Canadian dollars (5.3 trillion won). It directly employs more than 1,300 people.

NextStar Energy Chief Operating Officer Brett Hilock (브렛 힐록) said the successful production of 1 million cells was entirely due to employees' efforts. "We are continually raising the bar, and this achievement is the result of employees' thorough execution, technical expertise and unwavering dedication," he said. "I feel proud of what everyone has achieved together," he added.

On Feb. 6, LG Energy Solution announced it would buy the entire stake in NextStar Energy, which it established through a joint venture with Stellantis, and convert it into a wholly owned subsidiary. It plans to continue cooperation with Stellantis after the acquisition and keep supplying previously planned electric vehicle batteries.
