Korea\'s \'K-Moonshot\' takes first step to tackle national challenges with AI
South Korea has launched the K-Moonshot project to apply artificial intelligence to science and technology to solve national challenges. The Ministry of Science and ICT appointed 12 project directors to lead 12 national missions and held a launch ceremony for the K-Moonshot taskforce. The project aims to double research productivity by 2030 and solve the missions by 2035 by making AI core infrastructure for R&D. The National Science AI Research Center will support data and computing resources.

Government joins hands with Google DeepMind to step up \'K-Moonshot\' through global partnerships
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT will cooperate with Google DeepMind on AI-based science and technology innovation, including joint research, talent development and responsible AI use. The sides signed a memorandum of understanding in Seoul and agreed to expand collaboration across technology, infrastructure and researcher exchanges. They also plan internships, an AI campus in South Korea, and joint work on AI safety and governance, including testing methodologies.

South Korea finalises AI action plan to advance into global top three
South Korea has finalised its 2026-2028 AI action plan to embed artificial intelligence across the country and society, and approved separate measures on government AI infrastructure governance and an AI-driven science and technology “K-Moonshot” strategy. The plan is a statutory programme under the AI Basic Act and sets three policy pillars and 12 strategy areas. It includes measures spanning copyright, security vulnerability reporting, AI and data governance, welfare benefits and an AI basic society plan.
