MSIT overhauls K-Moonshot rules to build PD-led accountability system
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT has codified the authority of programme directors and a cross-ministry governance system for the K-Moonshot programme in a directive, after controversy over PD powers, status and conflict-of-interest controls. The ministry said it enacted and implemented operating and management rules on June 30. The rules set PD responsibilities for mission strategy, planning and oversight, and establish a K-Moonshot task force led by the science deputy prime minister.

K-Moonshot project stumbles at start as AI scientist program director offers to resign
South Korea\'s K-Moonshot project, aimed at applying AI to science and technology to solve national challenges, faces an early setback after a mission program director offered to resign. The science ministry said the resignation came for personal reasons and is expected to be accepted after the deputy prime minister returns from an overseas trip. The ministry plans to proceed without recruiting a successor and has outlined governance and conflict-of-interest controls for program directors.

Vice PM Bae holds talks in Belgium with EU on AI, science and technology cooperation
South Korea\'s Vice Prime Minister Bae Kyeong-hoon (배경훈) met a European Union executive commissioner in Brussels to discuss ways to expand cooperation in artificial intelligence and science and technology, the science ministry said. He accompanied President Lee Jae-myung on a state visit to Belgium and the EU. Bae also met Korean researchers at IMEC and discussed Horizon Europe participation, joint research in AI-driven innovation, advanced biotech and quantum technology, and wider researcher exchanges.
