KT to apply post-quantum cryptography security to defense systems
KT said on May 19 it will apply post-quantum cryptography to key South Korean defense systems through a 2026 pilot programme led by the Korea Internet & Security Agency with the Ministry of Science and ICT. The project aims to address security threats from advances in quantum computing and to apply and verify cryptography resistant to future quantum attacks on national core infrastructure. KT will run demonstrations with the defense ministry and the Army Information and Communications School.

SKT model adopted for military AI development as Dokpamo use bears fruit
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of National Defense and SK Telecom will work together to use a homegrown AI foundation model in the defence sector. The three signed an agreement on May 14 at SKT\'s Euljiro Tower. The defence ministry will develop a defence-specialised AI model using SKT capabilities from an elite team in the government-led project. Cooperation includes data, testing and GPU support linked to a national AI project.

South Korea’s public-sector artificial intelligence market has expanded more than 11-fold over the past decade, reaching nearly 3 trillion won a year. A Software Policy and Research Institute study said AI-related service contract value rose from 244.3 billion won in 2015 to 2.82 trillion won in 2024, while the number of contracts climbed to 1,215. The share of AI in public ICT service contracts rose to 11.8 percent in 2024.
