Woori Financial Group's Woori Financial Future Foundation is joining hands with the Ministry of National Defense to expand welfare support for troops who died on duty or were injured and their families. It will invest 3 billion won over the next three years to support medical treatment costs and living, medical and education expenses. It will also provide support tailored to service members' children at different stages of growth.
The Woori Financial Future Foundation said it signed a business agreement with the Ministry of National Defense on June 19 at the ministry's building in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, for the 'Our Hero' programme to improve the welfare of service members and their families.
Woori Financial plans to provide a total of 3 billion won over the next three years under the agreement. Starting this year, it will expand annual recipients to about 600 people.
Recipients include families of service members who died on duty and service members facing financial hardship due to injuries and other reasons.
It is also strengthening education support. In conjunction with the Hoguk Scholarship Foundation, it will provide scholarships to university-student children of injured service members, single-parent service members and service members who support a family member with a disability. For children of service members who died on duty, it will provide supplies tailored to each stage of growth.
Woori Financial Chairman Jong-ryong Lim (임종룡) said, "I will do my best so that the 'Our Hero' programme becomes a strong fence that allows service members to focus on carrying out their duties without worry."
